Rugby Wind Farm

A group of local farmers first saw the potential for a wind farm in the area and approached Windlab to investigate the development of the site in August 2008.  Windlab's wind mapping technology confirmed the farmers were right.  The site has strong and consistent winds and the potential to produce a large amount of clean energy.  The project has benefitted from more than seven years of on-site wind monitoring and measurement that has confirmed the local winds are both strong and consistent.

Project Summary

The RugbyWind Farm Project is located in Rugby, approximately 17kms East of Boorowa. If successful, the Wind Farm will be situated in the Shire of Boorowa. The project site (approximately 111km²) is a series of hills and high plateaus which form part of the Great Dividing Range. The farms involved consist primarily of cleared agricultural land used for sheep grazing.

Rugby Wind farm will produce enough clean energy to power up to 75,400 homes a year - preventing up to 3.4 million tonnes of greenhouse pollution entering the environment by 2020.  Rugby Wind farm will create around 90 direct jobs during construction and around 12 full-time operational jobs once built.  These are skilled jobs in the green economy that are attractive to young people and giving them a future in their own region.
